Parents are proud people…and they should be. Parents are there to protect their kids, motivate their kids and keep them level-headed so that one day they turn into functioning, civilized, law-abiding human beings. The goal of a parent should ultimately be to allow their children to not need them….not be dependent on them in any way, shape or form…and not be set up for future failure. LaVar Ball needs to learn a hard lesson…quickly.
In case you don’t know, and ultimately you shouldn’t know him, LaVar Ball is the father of 3 basketball players…Lonzo Ball whom currently plays in college at UCLA…LiAngelo Ball and LaMelo Ball – both of whom are currently in high school. While LaVar Ball has been talking nonsense about his aspirations for his children for quite some time, recently it’s gotten to a point where people can just laugh…unless you’re one of his children!
Comparisons To Michael Jordan
Yes, you read that right. Recently, LaVar Ball was quoted as saying, “back in my heyday, I would kill Michael Jordan one-on-one. I would just back (Jordan) in and lift him off the ground and call a foul every time he fouls me when I do a jump hook to the right or the left. He cannot stop me one-on-one. He better make every shot ’cause he can’t go around me. He’s not fast enough. And he can only make so many shots outside before I make every bucket under the rim.” So, now at least you are beginning to understand the mental capacity of LaVar Ball. With Mr. Ball’s logic, I guess we could all beat Michael Jordan, LOL.
It’s Gotta Be The Shoes
In addition to Mr. Ball’s lofty dreams of beating Michael Jordan one-on-one, he also proclaimed how his eldest son, UCLA player Lonzo Ball, would be seeking a billion dollar shoe deal “right out of the gate.” He went on to say, “You don’t even have to give it to me all up front. Give us $100 million over 10 years.” So, there you go. Notice how he said “me” when addressing the individual whom would be receiving the money!? Beyond that, keep in mind, LeBron James’ original contract with Nike was constructed at 7-years, $90 million. Thus, LaVar Ball is expecting his son to rake in over 10 times the amount LeBron James did!?!?!?!? Seriously???!!! I mean seriously!
More of LaVar Ball’s nuttiness could be heard when he told TMZ that Lonzo Ball will be better than 2-time MVP Steph Curry. For you NCAA bracket lovers, he also guaranteed UCLA will win the national title this year.
Simply Bad Parenting
There’s a saying about earning respect…“Let others do the talking for you.” Meaning, if Lonzo Ball, or either of his brothers, truly earns overwhelming respect in the professional realm, then great. But, my feeling is, if you need to sell yourself that hard to the public, there’s something off. There’s just something not right. Please understand, LaVar Ball is a former player at Washington State and Cal State Los Angeles. While at Washington State, he averaged 2.2 points per game. Yes, you read that right, LOL. To me, that says that Ball is publicly running his mouth about his kids because of his own shortcomings in life. Currently, Ball is the owner of a training facility (sorry, but I’m not going to give this guy a shameless plug just because he runs his mouth). He was a failed NFL player for the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers and is the definition of a bad parent. With his big yap just going on and on and on, his poor kids are doomed for failure and frankly, that’s what the public is going to be looking and waiting for. Don’t get me wrong, parents should be overwhelmingly proud of their children. But please let your children live their own lives, dreams and earn their own success. If you need to live vicariously through them, you’re doing it wrong.
